March 2010 archive
There’s quite a fashion mishmash going on around here; people can’t decide if it’s fall or spring! Both times I was out this weekend I noticed two, very distinct outfits: the girl clad in knee or ankle boots and the girl wearing shorts and a tank top.
I get it. It’s toasty during the day and kind of chilly at night. Why not get the most mileage out of those winter boots and fall sweaters? On the other hand for ladies who are itching to show off, why not wear something shorter and skimpier and strut those sexy gams? It’s confusing. And obviously everyone is confused. So here’s a simple guide to transition to spring. Keyword here being transition. That means, fall is over.
It’s almost April, so you don’t have to mourn the loss of fall altogether yet. But it is time to let the boots go. Instead, it’s the perfect time to use layering pieces and get some more use out of last season’s boyfriend blazers and cardigans. I wouldn’t pull the shorts and stilletos out yet (or at all for that matter, but that’s an entirely different blog post) but I would pull out the spring prints, floral tops and light colors that are oh-so-fun this season.
Try 3/4 or longsleeved dresses paired with wedges for a decidely spring (yet still warm) look.
And there’s never been a better time than now to keep using a cute boyfriend blazer. Layer it over tanks and jeans, dresses, short skirts, anything!
If you really really just can’t wait to do shorts, try something a bit more tasteful than a low-cut top and stilettos. Especially when it’s cold and breezy out!
And you might as well take advantage that it is lovely out at night to wear those fun, spring prints that aren’t sleeveless and won’t make you suffocate like they would in the next few months.
Fashion? Yes. Beauty? Yes. Hairstyling? Eh….I’ll freely admit I could use more than a little help in that department. No matter how many a magazine article I have read, (or how many times I’ve practiced, for that matter) there’s still nothing like a salon blowout.
Unfortunately, I don’t always have the time (or the funds) for an every-other-day blowout. So I’m totally intrigued by this new hair care line, HerCut which instead of being tailored toward your hair type, is made especially for your hair cut.
Are you sporting long layers? You’ll want the Long Layers Catalyst styling product. More of a bob kinda girl? Yup, there’s product for that, too.
All in all, there’s five different hairstyles HerCut addresses: the bob, the shag, the pixie, the blunt cut and long layers. Plus, the products are free of unwanted chemicals like parabens, sulfates and synthetic dyes.
You can check out the HerCut line of products at Sephora.
There are no excuses really other than lately, it’s been quite chaotic around here. But one thing’s for sure, it doesn’t stop me from spotting new, lovely things and totally obsessing over them. After all, we can all use a little beauty in our lives, right? Here’s a few of my spring obsessions you can obsess over, too.
I’m pretty sure I’m scooping up this Michael Kors Python clutch for spring. It’s totally lovely in person and perf for spring/summer garb. http://www.michaelkors.com.
These Gucci ‘Helena” cutout boots make me feel like I’ve died and gone to High Heel Heaven.
You can get them at Neimans or Saks.

One (unfortch) thing about being a desert dweller: venturing out of town can often wreack havoc on the skin. So if this spring you may be heading to more humid parts, be sure to stuff some Philosophy Never Let Them See You Shine velvet touch primer in your beauty bag.
This heaven-in-a-tube genius primer goes on clear (to be applied under your foundation) and keeps oil and shine away. And similar to regular foundation primer, it leaves a flawless, matte look on your skin that’s the perfect canvas for makeup.
Gents with oily skin can go ahead and give it a go, too. It’s fragrance free and clear.
With so many events going on this week, it’s like event season is still in full swing! Better enjoy it now while the weather is still lovely out and before we’re all permanently trapped in our a/c controlled homes for the rest of the summer.
So this Friday afternoon, you should definitely check out this trunk show at the Borgata by Nolan LA and 1020 by Nicole and stock up on some cute leather jackets and jewelry, too.
The accessories line, Nolan LA, is full of contemporary, whimsical pieces. I’ve taken a peek at the spring/summer collection (pasted below) and it’s quite lovely. The Champagne Happy Hour on Friday will include up to 60% off items so this is definitely the time to scoop up some new baubles!
Also showcasing will be 1020 by Nicole. If you didn’t pick up a little leather jacket this winter (or need another because really, who can have too many?!?) definitely check out this collection.
4pm-7pm @ Borgata of Scottsdale
I haven’t had a chance to check out the spring collection yet, but the Lia Kes fall 2010 collection is looking quite lovely. It’s a good thing we’ll only have to wait until tonight as you can meet designer Lia Kes and check out her spring collection tonight at Bliss Boutique.
Enticed? I am.
