I am thoroughly obsessed with dry shampoo.

If you’ve ever had to deal with oily roots, I’m sure you are too.

For any of you that haven’t given dry shampoo a shot, it’s the perfect solution for those in-between hair wash days.

As soon as your roots start to gather a bit more oil than you’d like, you can spray on a dry shampoo or (when in a pinch) dust on some baby powder to soak up any excess oil. The problem? Until recently, my go-to brands have been pricey. And as far as the baby powder, I’m not crazy about my head smelling like a stick of deodarant.

Needless to say, I’ve been on a long-term mission for a cheap fix that’s a good alternative.

I would suggest corn starch! Corn starch is translucent when “wet” (e.g. when mixed with the oil from your hair) and has no smell, unlike baby powder. Dust a small (i’m talking tiny) bit on your fingers and run them through your roots, and the shine is gone! Dry shampoo is essentially corn-starch anyway. Be careful – too much corn starch and your hair will feel like straw (because it will literally soak up all the moisture from your hair) so keep it at the oily parts of your roots and bangs.
