Shopping, for a lot of us, is like a sport. But sometimes, you just need to get it done, and get it done fast. Enter, speed shopping 101. What is speed shopping exactly? I’ll tell you a little story:
Last weekend, hubby and I traveled to Vancouver for a friend’s wedding. Of course, it wasn’t until we got out of the car and were awaiting the SkyTrain to the airport that I realized my dress for said wedding was not with me. Cue the panic.
There wasn’t enough time to go home, and no one to go home and bring my dress to me which I knew was hanging in the garment bag…in my closet.
So, what’s a girl to do? Believe it or not, I bought the first dress I tried on in the first store I went into. I would call this dumb luck because, how often are you shopping and shopping and shopping and can’t find a single thing to buy?! For me, this happens a lot. But for this occasion, it wasn’t an option. The best part was, I didn’t settle at all; I got compliments on my dress all night long!
Here’s how you can do some super successful last-minute shopping and look amazing from head-to-toe in a 10-minute speed shopping trip
Speed Shopping Rule 1: Know Your Body Type
This is absolutely KEY. I can tell by just glancing at a dress how it’s going to fit and if it will flatter me. There’s no point in trying on outfit after outfit if you know you’ve never been able to pull of something low-cut, high-waisted, etc. etc.
I picked a dress that was drapey in the front (this way, I don’t have to worry about eating or drinking too much and looking pudgy!) and tighter in the back so it’s still sexy. The drape was long enough to make it wedding-appropriate and the bright blue color was a great choice for being a summer wedding. Win-win.
Speed Shopping Rule 2: Know Your Colors
Speaking of bright blue, you HAVE to know what colors work for you. I’m pretty tan so for me, bright blue is one of them. If you’re fair and can’t pull off peach because you look too washed out, don’t even bother!
Since it was a summer wedding, that ruled out white and I wanted something a little bit livelier than black.
Speed Shopping Rule 3: Know Your Stores
I know exactly where to go to find a cheap and trendy top, something for a wedding, new shoes—whatever it is I’m looking for! This saves endless amount of time going to places “browsing” for what it is you need.
I had two stores in mind when I got to the mall, went to both and left it at that! Luckily, the first store was a winner.
